TaylorMade R9 TP Fairway Wood Review

For years now, TaylorMade R9 TP Fairway Wood has been one of the industry leaders in golf club design and manufacturing. They continually put out some of the best golf equipment available. Though they are probably best known for their drivers, with such past beauties like the r7, they also have made some absolutely fantastic fairway woods over the years as well.



I still think back to when my father first came home with his first Raylor or his Tour Spoon. They were great clubs and well ahead of their time.



I've never had a 3-wood I've completely trusted. Many of my playing partners have that "go to" TaylorMade fairway wood that they know will find the short grass when the chips are down. Such a club would be a great find as it would take some of the pressure off my driver. So as you can expect when I heard I had one of the new R9 TP 3-woods coming my way I was full of anticipation. I already had a Burner TP 3-wood in my bag and I was ready to put the new one to the test to see if I needed to switch.



Technology and Design

The designers at TaylorMade have decided this year to leave their MWT (Moveable Weight Technology) off the fairway wood line and have employed their new FCT (Flight Control Technology) instead.



FCT gives golfers the ability to set the face angle, loft, and lie to eight different positions to help us optimize our trajectory and shot shape. This is accomplished by rotating a metal sleeve fitted over the tip of the shaft into eight different positions. Each position provides for a different setup and launch conditions. Basically, you remove the shaft from the head by loosening the FCT bolt with the new (white) wrench, twist the shaft to the position you prefer, and screw the whole thing back together again. For the tinkerer out there this is just about as much fun as you can have with a wrench and a driving range.





Up close you can see the hosel positions for TaylorMade's new Flight Control Technology.



The R9 fairways come standard with Fujikura Motore shafts that have been developed with H.I.T. (High Inertia Tip) technology. Fujikura claims its new H.I.T. technology delivers more power to the ball by keeping more energy in the tip of the golf shaft. The TP model comes with a slightly upgraded Fujikura Motore F1 shaft.



The head design has been dubbed "new classic" by TaylorMade due to its successful combination of both modern and classic head shapes. It looks like Taylormade has outdone themselves again. If nothing else they should win the award for golf club brand with the most acronyms and nicknames!



Esthetics

As I mentioned above, TaylorMade has dubbed the head design as "new classic" due to a modernizing of the classic head shape. Whether this is true or a lot of fancy PR I don't know, but I like it either way. The triangular shape isn't as excessive as some "geometric" metal woods, and it's rather rounded as well, which helps.



The crown is a dark shiny black with nothing but a small TaylorMade logo as an alignment aid. This is definately a return to the classic look for TaylorMade as the crowns on their 2008 Burner line had more graphics and lines on them than a set of high rise blueprints.





TaylorMade's "New Classic" head design is a lesson in simple effectiveness. Nothing here to distract from hitting a great shot.



The soles are also beautifully understated as they are a brushed silver with simple TaylorMade and R9 graphics adorning them. I personally like this as I believe a club's performance should set it apart, not its snazzy paint job.



The Fujikura Motore F1 shaft is maroon and silver in color with simple graphics to match. Really the only thing out of the ordinary at all on this club, that would alert someone to its unusual abilities is the hosel area where they have put the FCT position aids.





TaylorMade also left the sole of the club devoid of unnecessary graphics. You can see in this photo the FCT bolt that connects the head to the shaft.



Simply stated, TaylorMade has removed anything and everything from this club that might detract from its overall look and left behind nothing but what is necessary for it to function as a good golf club. This is somewhat of a breath of fresh air in a time where it seems neon colors are finding their way onto clubheads at an alarming rate.



Performance

This TaylorMade R9 TP 3-wood came to me with the standard Fujikura Motore F1 stiff shaft 15° of loft. I first took it to the range to play around with the FCT positions. I started with the position I like which is standard lie 2° open (the R position), and worked it all the way around trying all positions until I got to 2° closed. I was struck by really how little each move affected my ball flight.



Afraid I was unconsciously adjusting my swing for each position I employed a friend to help me by changing the positions without telling me where they were. This blind test produced slightly different results, with me being able to tell the difference between the 2° closed and 2° open but not any of the positions in between. Not only that I found the position I liked most was 1° closed which is very odd for me. I fight a constant hook and to have a club work best for me when it's closed sent up red flags.







Ball flight and workability were fantastic. Though certain shots were possibly slightly easier to hit from certain FCT positions, I was still able to hit draws and fades with the hosel set in all positions. I have a difficult time fading the ball with my current Burner 3-wood and I was very happy to see this club allow for a left to right ball flight. I was also able to control my trajectory quite easily as well. I was slightly surprised by this as I thought the FCT might hurt workability. The opposite actually came true as the hosel position ended up having less to do with ball flight than the swing did. Again this is the way I believe it should be. A player should produce the shot, not the club.



Distance from this club was also very nice, if you want to hit your 3-wood as far as your driver. I hit this club at least 25 yards farther than my 2008 model Burner TP 14.5° 3-wood. The ball jumped off the face. I would go as far as to hypothesize that this comes from the new Fujikura shaft technology, but I am not entirely sure. I'm also not entirely sure that I really need to hit a 3-wood that far, but it's nice to know I have that in the bag.





The clean lines and nice setup of the R9 fairway woods promotes confidence



I hit the Taylormade out of a number a different lies from hardpan to thick rough. It did well from most of them, especially the tight lies. The only lie that gave it a little trouble was long, thick grass. I had to try very hard to keep the face from turning over as the grass grabbed the hosel. Again, this is a guess, but the FCT hosel area is thicker than normal an may not pass through grass quite as easily. Regardless, I seriously doubt anyone would be hitting a 3-wood from that kind of lie in the first place.



Off-center hits were forgiven to a point one would expect with a Tour Preferred version fairway wood. Good enough to keep slight misses from being effected too much yet finicky enough to give good feedback. I personally wouldn't have it any other way. I would venture a guess to say the non TP version and its more flexible shaft with slightly more torque might be a touch more forgiving.







As I have mentioned in other reviews I believe the sound the comes from hitting a ball is also a very important part of choosing a club. The sound that comes from the R9 fairway woods is just like the rest of the club: nice and understated. There was nothing more than a muffled crack, no tinny metal sound at all.



Specs and Extras

The R9 Fairway Woods will be available in 13°, 15°, 17°, and 19° models and come standard with a 70-gram Fujikura Motore shaft for both righties and lefties. The TP model, (tested here) is available in the same lofts but instead comes standard with a tour-grade 85-gram Fujikura Motore F1 shaft. The MSRP will be $275 and $360 respectively.





Fujikura Motore shafts come stock on the R9 series. The Motore F1 (bottom) are stock on the TP line.



The FCT has 4 main positions with a halfway position between each. The main positions are (L) 2° closed standard lie, (NU) Square 1° upright lie, (N) Square 1° flat lie, and (R) 2° open standard lie.



Each model comes with the new white wrench for removing the FCT bolt from the shaft. The company warns users not to use the old yellow and black MWT wrenches as they do not provide the 40 inch pounds of torque necessary to keep the head securely on the shaft. Also provided is a pamphlet outlining the process of moving the head around to find your best fit.



As always I like to mention the headcover. The Taylormade R9 headcovers both look and work very well. Mostly white and black they are the sock type that do a good job of protecting the shaft as well. I appreciate a good headcover design. There is nothing worse than fighting a headcover on and off six times a round.







Final Thoughts

I know some say we seem to give a lot of favorable reviews here on The Sand Trap, and this is a positive review. I do have to say I am not completely sold on the Flight Control Technology as a whole. I found it difficult at best to see any real changes in ball flight from one setting to the next. This leaves me to believe that the average 15 handicapper won't be able to see a difference at all.



This is not to say that this is not a good golf club, because it is. It's actually a really good club. I believe that any handicap could probably benefit from putting solid equipment like the R9 fairway woods in their bags. It would be a winner in my book even without the FCT.



So why the abundance of positive reviews? Because it's rare for a company to introduce a dreadful club these days. With millions of dollars at stake, it doesn't happen. TaylorMade, you could say, pushes the envelope a bit more than some other companies, but in the end, it comes down to what you like. I like the R9 fairway wood, and think you might too if you give it a try.

Can You Get Your Own FBI NCIC Record?


We all want to know what scoop “Big Brother” has on us in their databases. Especially the FBI. Here’s how you can get your own FBI file.

First a clarification: The FBI maintains the NCIC database. It does NOT keep a file on every American. The NCIC contains data on every person convicted of a crime, wanted persons, persons deemed dangerous to law enforcement, all drivers and more. The FBI shares this information with all law enforcement agencies. This is the database police query when they stop your car and “call in” your license plate and drivers license. The database does not record that you have been stopped, although in most provinces in Canada there is a system where all stops and contacts are recorded. Many local law enforcement departments have “local contact” database but they are not shared. So if you get stopped in your own town – there’s a chance there is a local record of this stop. But not on the NCIC database.

The FBI also maintains it’s internal databases – and that information might contain data on non-convicted persons. This database is an investigative file, containing information on any person of interest to the FBI. It also contains all the internal records on FBI investigations. This file is NOT available to the public under any circumstance. One example of this is the FBI Counterterrorism database. This database contains over 659 million records from the FBI and other government sources.

An FBI Identification Record, often referred to as a Criminal History Record or Rap Sheet, is a listing of certain information taken from fingerprint submissions retained by the FBI in connection with arrests and, in some instances, federal employment, naturalization, or military service.

If you have been convicted of a crime or wanted by the police you will have a record in this file. You can get a copy of your own file by following precise instructions. These can be found here: http://www.fbibackgroundchecks.com/get-your-own-FBI-record.html. The cost is $18 payable to the FBI. The request must be made directly to the FBI. There is no need to use a company or lawyer to do this.

Can you get a FREE NCIC background check? Yes, most non-profit volunteer-based organizations might get a FBI background check performed at the local police agency.

We are all familiar with the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA). We can get to any database, right? Not really. The government will censor what they deem confidential. I have tried to get several files using FOIA and the government will respond but slowly. And many records will have black marker streaks covering what they deemed confidential. In one case I know there was a record – but the response was “no record found”. In a perfect world we should be able to see what is in these databases, but in today’s world this is not so easy.

Are You Giving Gas Back To The Gas Station?


You May Be Paying For Gas, And Leaving It Behind.

That's right; you could be losing a fortune by trying to get that extra bit in because it is pennies cheaper at this gas station.

If you try to overfill your gas tank by squeezing that extra bit of gas in after the pump has clicked off it could be going back into their tanks.

Let me explain.

The fuel pump at the gas station has a venting system which takes the fumes out of the air as you fill up you tank. If this did not happen you would get a face full of noxious fumes every time you fill up.

If you try to get more in after the pump has clicked off, it may suck some of the fuel into the venting system instead and back into their tank.

Also, when you put the gas in your tank it is coming from buried storage tanks and is colder than if it was stored above ground. What this means is that as the gas warms up to the temperature of the day it expands.

If you overfill you tank and then park your car up, the fuel may go into the cars fuel tank breather system and cause unknown damage or even leak from the breather onto the floor. Now along with the wasted fuel you also have a fire hazard. (Is you insurance up to date?)

For you pocket and you safety I recommend that you stop filling when the gas pump clicks.

If you are going away on holiday, or business, early in the morning and think it would be quicker to fill up the night before it may be wise to think again. There are many 24 hour gas stations.

As fuel is sold by volume it will be colder, early in the morning and as the day gets warmer it expands and you get less for your money.

It will only take minutes to fill up in the morning and gives you enough time to remember things you forgot to pack (where's the kids?) before travelling to far.

If you are driving for a long distance it would be a good idea to use your cruise control as often as possible. A smoother speed will be more economical.

What about all the clutter in your car. It all adds weight and means more gas used. If you need to carry a full toolkit around in your trunk then it is time to think about replacing your car. Clear out the stuff you don't need (Compact discs, half empty pop bottles, Kylie tapes, those old papers you were going to take to recycling). A tidy car makes you feel good too.

When you are driving does your steering wheel pull to one side or the other. The wheel alignment may need checking. If the alignment is out it will cause the tires to drag on the road and you will use more gas.

Also the tires will wear out extremely fast, usually on one side. The handling of the vehicle will also be affected.

So for safety and economy get your alignment checked regularly.

Avoid points on your license

Getting a traffic ticket is sure a big blow on your safety driving status but a bigger headache is when you get points on the driving record. Beware as by accumulating more points can lead to more bigger problems like getting your ticket suspended. Yes, getting your license suspended is easy if you have accessed points on your driving record within a certain amount of time.

What more points can do?

When you accumulate points, you are in placing yourself in grave danger of losing your privilege to drive. The MVC or DMV has the right to suspend your license or revoke your privilege to drive. Moreover, you also need to worry about your auto insurance rates. The insurance agencies keep a constant eye on your driving record. When you have amassed points, you pay more rates than the rest. This law is even stricter when the driver is young.

How points are accumulated.

The numeric value of the point depends on the seriousness of the offense you have conducted. You get 2 points if you fail to keep right at an interjection, 3 points more at an improper turning at the traffic light, 4 points for passing at a no passing zone, speeding even with tailgating or leaving an accident scene when there is an injury involved.

In Florida, you license can get suspended for 30 days if your points reach 12 within a year, three months suspension for 18 points in 18 months, 1 year suspending for 24 points within 36 month period.

So when you know how accumulating points can have a dramatic result, you ought to do something. Lowering the point is of course the better solution but the thing is how you do it. The points you have collected will appear on the permanent driver history. The point totals may go down if you do not get another traffic ticket in times. Three points can be deducted each year from your total if you remain violation free.

There is also other means to get the points deducted from you driving record sooner. Attending point reduction course from the online traffic schools can help you to reduce two points from the totals. Enrolling in the driver improvement program will get you 3 points off your license. By joining the defensive driving course, every five years will have 2 points removed from your record.

There is currently a great urgency for over-the-road truck drivers, as products and goods increase, the need to ship articles of commerce are just urgent.
There are three types of trucking according to Online Truck Driving Jobs .com
Local: This type of driving job refers to loading and unloading in local areas, such as the town you live in and surrounding areas. The pay for local driving is hourly and drivers are home every evening. A local driver may be expected to drive 8 to 10 hours a day. One examples of local driving would be a tanker service who delivers fuel to local gaoline stations.
Over-The-Road: This type of driving job entails delivering freight in all 48 states and Canada, or may only include some states. How far a driver travels is up to the trucking company who employs the driver. The pay is normally calculated by mile with an expected schedule of 2,500 miles per week. OTR drivers are limited to driving 70 hours within 8 days. They are expected to take an 8 hour break after 10 hours of driving. A driver can make more money if they are not required to load and unload their truck. These drivers are away from home an average of 1 to 4 weeks at a time.
Short Haul: This type of driver is engaged in driving 100 miles or less from their home base. Short haul drivers usually make multiple deliveries in one trip and sometimes load and unload the vehicles, carry packages or perform other duties beyond driving the truck. A short haul driver works for companies such as: UPS and FedEx.
There are some definite qualifications for driving a truck, whether a person chooses, over-the-road, short haul or local driving: Different companies have their own policies and though some qualifications vary, here are some general requirements every truck driver needs to know.
Age: There is a minimum age requirement of 21 years, for out of state driving.
CDL License Class A: This can be obtained by a truck driving school, along with endorsement for specialized training, such as driving a tanker truck.
Department of Transportation Physical Exam: Drivers must pass a standard D.O.T physical exam along with a drug screen (illegal drug use is an immediate disqualification for a CDL license). A bad medical history or back injury may interfere with a person's ability to gain employment as a truck driver.
Driving Record: A good driving history within the last three years a standard qualification for most companies, however, some may be stricter and some may tend to be more lenient.
Criminal Record: Drug or theft histories will disqualify a driver. OTR companies do not hire drivers who have a felony conviction, so felony records must be at least 10 years old, in order to qualify for a position as a driver.
Work History: If a potential driver shows on his application that he has been "job hopping" it may disqualify him for an OTR position, unless there is a good explanation. Many truck driving companies look for drivers who have been at previous positions for long periods of time because it reveals a good work ethic. A driver needs to have a good work history for a period of at least three years.

Young Drivers Need Winter Practice

(NC)—One of the more nerve-wrecking experiences of parenthood occurs when your teenager first earns his or her license to drive. While many parts of Canada have ensured that new drivers be accompanied with a more experienced driver in the vehicle, it's important that parents take some time to share safety tips with their teenagers.

Learning to drive is challenging enough. When you throw snow, ice and slush into the driving mix, it can catch new drivers off guard. Therefore, passing along winter driving wisdom to your teens is especially crucial.

"Since you probably own the car your teenager is driving, you should ensure that it is prepared for winter-weather," says Tony Mougios, Michelin Brand Manager in Canada. You Just Got Your CDL License � Now What?

Congratulations! You just completed and passed the instructional driving courses and earned your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). So now that you are licensed to drive a truck, what is your next step?

Unless you have a thing about big trucks and just wanted the license to say you have it, chances are you went to school and got your CDL because you want to be a truck driver. Luckily for you, there are a number of opportunities just waiting to be found. It is up to you to find the trucking jobs that best fit your needs.

Think about why you wanted to be a trucker in the first place. Was it to see the country? The salary? Do you enjoy the driving? What kind of truck or payload do you want to haul? Writing down everything you are looking for in trucking jobs will solidify things in your mind when you start your job hunt.

There are many avenues in which to pursue trucking jobs. First of all, check your local papers – both the dailies as well as the Sunday issues which usually have an extra classified section just for employment. Often times, trucking companies in your area that are seeking qualified licensed truck drivers will advertise available positions. Keep your eyes and ears open too. Billboards are becoming more popular, with trucking companies sometimes purchasing billboard space if they are in a big hiring push. Television ads and even posters displayed at libraries and other public places are other areas to keep an eye on.

The truck driving school where you trained and earned your CDL is another avenue to pursue in your quest for trucking jobs. Often times, a trucking company will post available positions in their company through the school’s connections. So you have to remember to ask because these are not always advertised!

The internet is also a major source for trucking jobs. There are tons of employment websites that cater to helping you find a job. Most of them do not specialize in truck driving. However, with a few web searches, you can come up with some sites that do. Another internet option is researching the trucking companies themselves. Perhaps you know of a few trucking companies in your area. Look them up and see if they have trucking jobs on their website.

Searching for trucking jobs is the easy part. The hard part is determining which trucking company is the right one for you. You might have to move to a different area or travel to places that you prefer not to go. Think about those issues as well as the reputation of the trucking company and the benefits and salary. Your decision will mark the start of a new life and career for you.

hit by an uninsured motorist, my Texas car crash tale.

For several years I have been aware that there are some flaws in the way the great State of Texas deals with several rather important issues like illegal aliens, car insurance and Police complacency but over the course of the last four years I have been lucky enough to not encounter this flawed system directly. Several years ago my wife was involved in a minor accident with an uninsured motorist, and when it was all said and done we to pay the repair bills while the other driver drove away into the sunset, care free. That incident left me pretty annoyed but on Friday the 11th I had my own little car crash that even though I was not at fault, I will once again have to cover the bill. Needless to say, I am absolutely raving mad and absolutely positive that the Texas law system is a joke.



It was about 7 PM and my family had volunteered me to go collect dinner from a nearby restaurant. The order was fairly large so my father and father-in-law accompanied me and I drove in my retired fathers 2004 Ford Escape. We collected the order and headed home, and everything was incident free and I made the last turn onto the road directly in front of my condo. The road is wide but is only one lane in each direction and since I only had to go about 150 yards to my gate we were traveling pretty slowly, probably about 10 miles an hour. I approached the driveway, indicated that I was going to be turning right and a few seconds later I started the turn right to go up the driveway and then BAM! Someone drove into the Escape and bounced off the front passenger side of the car! Apparently this guy had decided that I was going to slowly and tried to drive up on the right side of me!



He pulled over and looked like he was contemplating driving away so I pulled our car in front of his to block his escape. After about ten seconds a little Mexican man emerged from his beat up old Nissan Sentra, looking a bit confused as to what the commotion was about. After standing around for a minute or two he gathered up his stuff from inside his car and started walking up the road like nothing had happened, so while I called 911 my father rounded him up and made him sit near his car. After another minute or two he got up and had a quick look at the damage on our car and then proceeded to run away as fast as he could. My father-in-law, who is an ex-policeman gave chase, closely followed by me and after a couple hundred yards we cornered him and without physically abusing him made him return to the crash site. All he could say in English was "To much People, to much people…"



After about ten minutes two carloads of Dallas Police showed up and started having a look around. They examined the fluids that gushed from under our car, they interviewed the other driver and eventually interviewed me. When I told them that the guy had run away they indicated that we could get in trouble for chasing and forcing him to return to the scene, which is absurd. They said that it was irrelevant that he had run away because he was at the scene now and promised to perform a field sobriety on him because he smelt like an old beer hall.



They explained that they would not be filling in any paperwork since it was a civil issue and it was not against the law to have an accident and that my recourse was to file a claim against his insurance…if he had any. Well it turns out that he had no driver's license, no car insurance and no ID papers, but he gave the police his name and an address that he apparently lives at. They did not verify any of the information and did not check if the car was stolen or if he was a wanted man. They were nice enough to call a wrecker for me but once he showed up the police and the other driver drove their separate ways.



So, yes I am a bit annoyed at the system. As far as I know it is illegal to drive without car insurance in Texas. No sobriety test was performed. He had no official form of ID, no driver's license and no background checks were performed to see if he was who he said he was or if he is an ax murderer. He was given two citations, which the three police acknowledge he will not pay because his information is probably false and within a day he will have disappeared into the woodwork like most illegal aliens do.



My car insurance card says plain as day "all drivers in Texas must carry liability insurance on their vehicles or otherwise meet legal requirements for financial responsibility. Failure to do so could result in fines up to $1,000, suspension of your driver's license and motor vehicle registration, and impoundment of your vehicle for up to 180 days (at a cost of $15 per day)." Well the Dallas police chose to ignored this and let this guy drive off in his car leaving me with no method of ensuring payment and at least a thousand dollars in damages to the car. My insurance excess is $500 so I probably will not be putting this claim through my insurance company, as they will simply increase my premiums as quickly as they can.

Are You Distracted?


One morning last week, I heard a noise as I was in the car headed on my morning routine to the post office, then to get breakfast. I instantly knew what it was. A flat tire...and I was right.

But it was more than a flat tire...it was a distraction sent to us by the devil. If he can get us to focus on what else might go wrong in our day.

His main focus is to get us to focus on the cares of this world more than we do what God has called us to do.

John 10:10 tells us that the thief, which is satan, comes to steal, kill and destroy.

The last thing he wants you doing is fulfilling your destiny because every person who fulfills his/her destiny is another nail in satan's coffin. One more assignment checked off of God's to-do list before He sends satan into eternal damnation.

satan sends distractions our way, obstacles in our path, to try and prevent us from moving forward with our destiny. Bills pile up. The kids get sick. Your husband loses his job. You have an opportunity to move into a house from an apartment. A project at school or work.

Your body will go in the direction of whatever you are focusing on. Just like when a racing car driver is learning to drive. He is told that if he is headed for the wall, he needs to focus on wherever he wants to go. The car will go in the direction of his focus. Now if that works for cars, how much will it work in our lives?

For example, I chipped my front tooth. I still don't know how, but I did. And my mind was focused on how I looked. Not that I am raving beauty, but that is the first place my mind went. I don't show my teeth as it is when I smile, However, I convinced myself that whole world could see my chipped tooth, and that everyone was judging me because of it.

For most of that morning, my mind focused on how ugly I was. I even cried to God about it, but He is God-wisdom showed me a Scripture in Song of Solomon, a book I don't normally go near. "You are beautiful, my darling, beautiful beyond words," (Song of Solomon 4:1 NLT).

God knew exactly what to say to get my mind focused off the situation and back onto Him and His purpose for my life.

That's what we have to do. We have to change our focus. When satan brings things into our lives to distract us, we need to change our focus onto things that are pure, lovely, truthful and of good report.

We can't allow ourselves to stay focused on the trials and situations that the devil uses to distract us. We have to focus on what God said in His Word.

When sickness comes, start quoting Isaiah 53:4-5, reminding yourself that by Jesus' stripes on the cross, you are already healed.

When financial trouble comes, start quoting Philippians 4:19, holding onto the promise that God shall supply all your needs.

I have this spiral notebook filled with Scriptures for every need that a missionary evangelist put together. My mother bought it years ago when she used to counsel on the phone at our local TBN station.

The missionary evangelist has seen testimony after testimony from people who have applied the Scriptures to their situation and had miraculous results.

She tells you to quote the Scriptures three times, four times a day. Once you say the Scripture to God, thanking Him for the promise. Two, you say it to satan, prefacing it, as Jesus did, with, "It is written..." Three, you say it to yourself by saying, "I believe..."

What I have discovered is if I will do this in this prescribed manner, my focus changes. My mind is no longer on my circumstances or my problems. Instead my mind is where it should be--on God and His wonderful promises.

When trials and distractions come on way, we have to be equipped with the Word. We need to counteract each of satan's attacks, each of our negative thoughts, with the Word of God.

Whenever something negative happens in your life, immediately say, "But God said..." Then figure out what He said. You see, God and His Word are your final authorities. Nothing else matters. No trials. No distractions. Stand on the Word long enough and your circumstances will have to conform to what God says.

Don't let distractions pull you away from your purpose, your destiny, from what God has called you to do. Determine in your heart that you are going to fulfill your assignment on this Earth. And no devil in hell, no person on earth, is going to stop you.

Remember your body will go in the direction of your mind is focusing on. What are you focusing on? God? Or your distractions? The choice is yours.

How to Identify and Avoid Paid Survey Scams


With so many paid survey scams those days, and so many websites promoting those scams, often it is difficult to determine which is real and which is the ugly, especially for survey newcomers. However, there are ways you can identify them and avoid them:

1. Please remember: Never pay anyone to do paid surveys and get paid. Legitimate paid survey sites are always FREE to join and cost absolutely Nothing to take surveys and get paid. If anyone asks you to pay or provide credit card information, walk away!

2. The most common scam sites work like this: They claim they are paid survey sites and ask you to sign up and provide your personal information. They then turn around sell your information. Often those sites are overly simplified, no company information etc, all they ask is your name and email address, and you won't know what's going on until you register. If you see a site like this, walk away.

3. If you come cross a site that you are not sure if it is legitimate or not, please be sure to check their privacy policy. If you are not happy with their policy or they don't have a privacy policy, stay away. A legitimate company's privacy policy should state something like "We do NOT reveal or sell your personal information to any third parties..." in the "How do we use information collected" section.

4. Please be aware the difference between paid surveys sites and paid sign up offer sites. The later sometimes say they are survey sites, in fact they are not. They are the sites you get paid for signing up free or trial offers, and sometimes you need to pay upfront a small fee and provide credit card information to sign up non-free trials or offers.

5. Stay away from the websites promoting known scam "survey" sites - usually those sites promise you make thousands of dollars doing paid surveys, and lot of them claim that they have a free or paid list of 300+ or 400+ paid survey sites (in fact there are not hundreds survey sites that pay! I signed up over 200 sites, but over the course of almost 3 years, only around 70 sites that have paid me or at least send me a survey!)- They are just promoting anything they can find for commission no matter what, and they can NOT be trusted.

6. Trust your instinct - Sometimes you just have a gut feeling about a scam site just by its look and feel. In this case, you are probably right, trust yourself and walk away.

7. You can always do your research for a certain survey site. Fox example, type "A survey site" in Google, you might find "A survey site is a scam!" listed among the top search results!

8. Finally, remember NEVER provide sensitive personal information to anyone, never give out your social security number, driver's license numbers, credit card, bank account information to anyone. I have never has a survey site requires me to provide these information to get paid.

Why Do I Need a Notary Bond?


A notary public is an official appointed position by the Secretary of State's office in a given state. As with most public officials, the State requires that the individual obtain a surety or notary bond prior to receiving their appointment. This bond "makes sure" that if the official violates the public trust through negligence of their duties, funds are available to reimburse the State for its loss.

The primary responsibility of a notary public is to validate that the individual parties to a contract are who they claim to be. The State may suffer a loss if the notary fails to properly confirm the identity of the parties.

Here's an example...

Let's say Jim wants to buy a car currently titled to John. Jim and John bring the title to their local notary public to notarize their signatures on the transfer of title. The notary asks both for their drivers license to confirm their identities. Jim promptly presents his, but John claims to have left his ID at home. John is in a hurry to get the deal done, so the notary public simply instructs both Jim and John to sign the title, after which the notary signs or notarizes their signatures.

Unfortunately the person claiming to be "John" is actually John's roommate Steve. The real John is away on vacation and had no intention of selling the car. Do you think this John is a happy camper? Had the notary refused to witness the transaction because Steve didn't present identification, John would still have the title to his car.

As a public official, the notary public in this example violated the public trust by failing in their duty to confirm identity. John has recourse to file a claim against the State in which the transaction occurred for his loss, because the State was negligent through its appointed representative.

A notary bond is a guarantee of payment to the obligee (the State) should a loss occur for a penalty amount of the bond. Notary bonds are usually provided by a surety company (typically an insurance carrier). The bond generally runs concurrently with the term of the notary public's commission.

You're probably familiar with an auto insurance policy. If you have an auto accident, the insurance company pays the claim and writes off the loss. You aren't required to reimburse the company for the damages.

Unlike an auto insurance policy however, a notary bond is simply a guarantee that the funds will be available should a loss occur. The surety (insurance company) makes a payment to the State up to the penalty amount of the bond. However, this loss paid by the surety is not simply written off. They will most likely seek reimbursement from the bonded party - the NOTARY!

A notary bond protects the public. Who protects the notary? Insurance coverage is available to provide this protection - it's called Notary Public Errors and Omissions and may be purchased for a nominal fee from insurance companies.

Criminal Defendants On Trial: Pre-Trial Court Appearances


Preparing for Court

It is time to get ready for court. Plan when you will get up, what you will wear and when you will leave to be there on time. Don’t do anything that might jeopardize your bond or lead to having it revoked. If you arrive late the Judge could issue a capias. A capias is a Court order to the Sheriff to go out and arrest you. This means that your bond could be revoked and you will be back in jail during the entire pre-trial stage of your case.

Liberty is precious. The Declaration of Independence says, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Another word for liberty is freedom. The Court has given you freedom during the pretrial process by permitting you to bond out of jail. Freedom always comes at a price. In constitutional theory freedom always co-exists with its required correlative responsibility. We must live responsibly in order to remain living in freedom.

Here are some tips for your preparation for court. Dress conservatively in business attire. Cover up any visible tattoos.

• Men should wear dress pants with a shirt and tie; preferably a suit or sport coat.

• Women should wear pants, or knee-length skirts or dresses; appropriate neckline showing no cleavage.

Get a good night’s rest so you will be awake and alert when you are in Court. Children are not allowed inside the courtroom. Make other arrangements for your children for that day. Bring your case journal with you so you can jot down notes of important items you will want to remember.

At the Courthouse

Be on time! Gauge your travel to the downtown area of your city. Give yourself sufficient time to park and to get through the long lines. You can prepare for the metal detectors by not wearing large jewelry or belt buckles. Wear airport friendly shoes. Leave all weapons at home or in the trunk of your car and that includes small pocket knives. Even metal nail files can cause an extra search and an unexpected delay.

If you had your Driver License suspended as part of your case, then don’t drive to court. Take a bus or let someone else drive you. Often defendants are observed getting into the driver’s seat of their car after a “driving while license suspended” hearing. Don’t learn the hard way that the judge might instruct the court deputy to follow you.

Turn off your cell phone before you go inside the courthouse building. Don’t put it on pulse or vibrate and no text messaging.

Take off your hat. Don’t chew gum. Stand up tall and look the Judge in the eye. Show the Judge that you are a responsible person worthy of your liberty. Answer the Judge with “Yes, your Honor,” or “No, your Honor.” Address the lawyers and courtroom workers with “Yes, Sir,” or “Yes, Ma’am,” or “No, Sir,” or “No, Ma’am.” Being respectful of the courtroom workers will help your case. You will stand out favorably in Court during your pre-trial appearances.

Inside the Courtroom

Be there on time to answer when your name is called. You might have to wait for your lawyer to arrive as he may be detained in another courtroom. It is normal for lawyers to have 2 or 3 hearings on the same day. The judge will wait for the lawyer; he won’t wait for you. If you are late you might have your bond revoked and then you will sit in jail until your case is over.

While you are waiting for your case to be called, listen to the other cases that are called up to the Judge. Try to discern what is happening in their cases so you can gain greater insight into your own case. As you hear case after case being dealt with over several of your Court appearances, you will begin to accumulate great wisdom as to what is happening and what is expected.

Leave your purse, bag or backpack with someone when you are called to the podium. Stand right next to your lawyer but on the side away from where the prosecutor is standing. Otherwise, the Court Deputy will step in and make you move to protect the prosecutor from the possibility of an angry defendant.

Figure it this way: out of 100 cases the judge may give 2 people his complete mercy; 2 people his complete wrath; the greatest majority will be churned through the mill and receive normal or average treatment. The position you want to be in is, “How do I get in that top 2% where the judge will treat my case with his complete mercy and give me the greatest result possible?”

After Court Wrap-up

Once your case has been called and is done for the day, get your paperwork. This may include a Court Order setting your next Court date. Wait in the hallway to talk to your lawyer. Listen to what the lawyer says and follow his advice. Keep your Court papers in a file with all of your case documents. Log the next Court date and time on your calendar and post it in a conspicuous place so you don’t forget it. All successful people keep a calendar. They check it each week to see what is coming up and determine to be prepared for that meeting before it occurs. They check it every morning to be certain their day is planned out methodically. They re-check it at night to be certain they accomplished everything for that day. Jot down some notes in your journal so you can later recall what the lawyer said and things that are important to remember.

If your lawyer asks for certain information (e.g. witness names and phone numbers) or that you obtain specified documents for him, make sure you write this down so you can check them off as you deliver these items to the lawyer. What you are becoming is a sharp young man or young woman. Do you think the Judge will see the changes you are making as your cases progresses through the pre-trial stage? Do you think that the judge will want to help you to succeed by wrapping up your case quickly and with the best possible outcome?

Your lawyer knows that your case can be won or lost during the pre-trial stage. Notice the way he looks, his courtroom demeanor and his intense preparation during this time. Just as important to winning your case is the way you look, the way you act and the way you prepare for your pre-trial court appearances.


The True Cost of a Speeding Ticket

Have you noticed more autos on the side of the road with an officer issuing the driver a speeding ticket? Have you seen more trucks surrounded by DOT transport police? I sure have. There are several reasons for this increased activity.

One is that after 9/11 many departments have increased patrols. How to get an Illinois CDL (Commercial Drivers License)

Do I need a Commercial Driver License?



If you live in Illinois and drive a Class A, B or C commercial vehicle, you must have a Illinois Commercial Driver License (CDL).



CDL Endorsements are required for double/triple trailers, tanker vehicles, passenger vehicles and vehicles placarded for hazardous materials.



If you drive a commercial vehicle that falls into one of the following classifications, you must have an Illinois Commercial Driver License (CDL).



CLASS A - This classification applies only to "combination" vehicles with a Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) exceeding 26,000 pounds, provided the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of the vehicle being towed exceeds 10,000 pounds.



CLASS B - This class includes single or combination vehicles where the GVWR of the single vehicle exceeds 26,000 pounds. The vehicle in tow must not exceed 10,000 pounds.



CLASS C - Vehicles designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver, and vehicles placarded for hazardous materials, that do not meet the criteria for Class A or B above fall under this classification.



Farm-Related Services Restricted CDL:



This is a seasonal restricted CDL that can be issued for a period between 90 and 180 days in any 12-month period and is valid only within 150 miles of the employer's place of business. The holder must meet certain requirements.



Drivers Exempt (Waived) From CDL Requirements:



Under state and federal law, certain drivers are not subject to the requirements of the CDL program. Although the following vehicle operators are not required to obtain CDLs, they are required to hold the proper driver's license classification for the type of vehicle that they are operating. About the CDL Knowledge Tests

You will have to take one or more knowledge tests depending on what class of license and what endorsements you need. There are seven different CDL written tests. An applicant is required to correctly answer 80% of the questions to pass the written CDL tests. CDL applicants who fail any CDL examination three times will be required to wait 30 days from the date of the 3rd failure to retake the test. Three additional failures (a total of 6 failures) of the same test will result in a 90 day waiting period. Three additional failures (a total of 9 failures) of the same test after the 90 day waiting period will result in a one year waiting period from date of last fail. The waiting periods only apply to the test(s) failed three times. Out of state applicants must take all CDL written tests to secure an Illinois CDL.



All truck drivers are encouraged to study for the written tests so you won't take a chance on standing in line at the DMV office only to go home empty-handed. Online CDL practice tests are available that provide real sample questions from the Illinois CDL exams for all endorsement types.



The CDL knowledge tests include:



  • The 30-question general knowledge test is required for all applicants wishing to obtain a CDL.


  • The Air brakes test is required if the vehicle is equipped with air brakes. There are 25 questions.


  • The 20-question combination vehicle test is required if you wish to drive combination vehicles.


  • The passenger endorsement test is required if you will drive a vehicle designed to carry 16 or more passengers (including the driver). There are 20 questions.


  • The hazardous materials test is required if you wish to operate a vehicle transporting hazardous material that requires placarding. There are 30 questions. NOTE: The hazardous materials endorsement written test must be successfully completed each time you renew your CDL.


  • The tank endorsement test is required to operate a vehicle designed to carry any liquid or gaseous material within a tank that is permanently or temporarily attached to the vehicle or the chassis. There are 20 questions.


  • The 20-question doubles/triple endorsement test is required if you will operate double or triple trailers.




Skills Tests

After passing the required written tests, an applicant may be required to complete the CDL skills tests which consist of a vehicle pre-trip inspection test, basic controls skills test and a road test.



  • The pre-trip inspection is a walk-around inspection to make sure the vehicle is safe to operate. You will not be required to crawl under the vehicle or reach into the engine.


  • The basic control skills test contains four maneuvers: straight line backing, stop at line, measured right turn and angled backing/simulated docking.


  • The road test is administered on an established drive route. The examiner scores you on specific driving maneuvers, use of mirrors, blinkers, clutch (if applicable), and your handling of the vehicle in traffic.


Each portion of the skills tests must be taken in a vehicle representative of the license classification you wish to obtain. Proof of insurance is required for every vehicle before the performance tests may be administered.

What Are The Other Requirements For A CDL?



You must be 18 years of age to apply for a CDL license to drive in-state and age 21 to cross state lines.



The main physical requirements include good hearing, 20/40 vision with or without glasses or corrective lenses, and a 70-degree field of vision in each eye. Drivers must not be colorblind.



What Fees Will I Have To Pay?

CDL fees are as follows:

New Applicants (Applicants not possessing a Class A, B, or C Illinois CDL): $60.00

(An additional $5.00 fee will be added for applicants renewing an L or M license)

Ontario Law Firm Urges Implementation of Ignition Interlock Program in Ontario

In the provinces where it is in place, the Ignition Interlock Program has proven successful in reducing the number of repeat impaired driving offences. For persons convicted of drinking and driving offences it can reduce the hardship, especially for those living in rural areas and for those who need to drive for their employment. The Ontario criminal law firm of Aitken Robertson (http://www.fightthecharges.com) urges the Ontario legislature to move ahead and implement the Ignition Interlock Program. "Although the provincial government passed Bill 203, and as of June 4, 2007 the ignition interlock program has been on the books, the legislature has been very slow in coming up with the regulations that will govern how the program actually works. Basically, they have said that they agree with the program but refuse to complete the task of setting it up," states Nathan Baker, partner at Aitken Robertson. "The government has left the program in a strange position. MADD and the Ontario Police Association are both behind this program and want it brought in. They know that it is fair to people by allowing them to earn their driver's privileges back in steps and that this program actually decreases drinking and driving through behaviour modification," says Baker.



Section 259(1.1) of the Criminal Code of Canada allows a Judge sentencing a person convicted of a drinking and driving offence to receive his or her driver's license back in as little as three months provided that person has enrolled in a provincial ignition interlock program. The federal government has recognized the huge impact losing a driver's license has on an individual, especially in a rural setting. It's one thing to lose your license for a year if you live near public transit but another thing completely when the nearest grocery store is 15 km away and work is even farther. Since October of 2008, every person convicted of a drinking and driving offence is eligible for the program unless the Crown applies in particular circumstances and a Judge agrees. The federal government recognizes that, in the vast majority of cases, this program is the most successful.



Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, Quebec, Saskatchewan and the Yukon Territory all have ignition interlock programs in existence and they seem to be working well. By modifying the behaviour of people charged with drinking and driving offences it keeps them from committing the same mistake again. By forcing them to drive with no alcohol in their system people learn to modify their behaviour and continue to drive without drinking alcohol after the ignition interlock period is over. The ignition interlock device is basically a breath monitoring machine which is installed and wired into the ignition of the vehicle. Prior to starting the vehicle, the driver must blow into the machine. If the machine registers alcohol on the person's breath then the vehicle ignition is locked out and the vehicle simply will not start. As well, while driving, the machine will at random intervals require the driver to blow into the machine again. If the driver does not blow, or blows and has alcohol in his or her system, then the machine shuts the car down.



The Ignition Interlock Program still offers serious punishment for drunk drivers. On a first offence a person convicted will lose their license for at least 3 months and then have to enter into the ignition interlock program for a period between 9 months and 3 years. On a second offence there will be a 6 month loss of license and ignition interlock for between 18 months and 5 years. Finally, on a third or subsequent offence the accused will not be driving for at least a year and could be forced to have the ignition interlock installed for life. In addition, the provincial government will impose additional interlock requirements of one year on a first offence, 3 years on a second and life on a third in addition to the Criminal Code sanctions just mentioned. The ignition interlock device costs approximately $1500 each year to install and maintain.



"The Ignition Interlock Program is a very good program; it just needs to be implemented. It lowers the number of multiple offenders and it is supported by people on both sides of drinking and driving offences. It allows people, especially those living in rural areas to keep their jobs and keep working. The legislature of Ontario should finish the job it started and get the regulations completed," states Baker.
