Delivery driver – the name speaks for itself

With the increase in fast food chains, restaurants offering home delivery service and online ordering, the demand for delivery drivers have risen.

There have been a wide variety of different food outlets advertising for delivery drivers and with the Royal Mail being on strike, most people are turning to couriers to deliver their goods, therefore the need for delivery drivers within that sector has also increased.

The main duty of the delivery driver is to transport goods from one place to another, the role may sound simple, however it can be very stressful and can have very long shift patterns. Some delivery driving roles are on a contracted basis whereby they are called as and when needed. This is quite often within takeaways and fast food outlets as business can vary from time to time. A majority of delivery driving jobs are paid on an hourly basis, if not, they may be based according to the number of orders being delivered or parcels being delivered, in this case it is necessary that the person have a full time or part time job elsewhere because the work cannot be guaranteed.

The travel involved can either be within the local area or even delivering across the country. With the long travels involved, the delivery driver must have flexibility with this and be prepared to work longer hours than necessary due to the unpredictability of the roads and traffic congestion. It is very important that the delivery driver can ensure the goods in transit are stored correctly to prevent any damage to the goods as well as ensuring the correct parcels or orders are given to the right recipients. If not, the customers would require compensation and if delivering on behalf of a company, the company may not use the service again.

There are plenty of delivery driving jobs being advertised online as well as on shop windows. As long as the individual have a full UK Driving license and on some occasions a satellite navigator and access to own transport as well as a valid insurance, then the individual can apply for the job. It may not be a role as a career however it can be a great job for the extra little expenses.
